Do You Need Secondary Coverage?

Insurance coverage is expensive. Those who are on Medicare or Medicaid may be covered by the Federal government, but they are still required to assist in some of the medical expenses. In addition, prescription medication may not be covered under these plans. Those who have independent or group insurances may find that their insurance does not cover all the necessary procedures or medications either. For these individuals, secondary coverage is essential to ensuring the continuing of good health and healthy living practices. Do You have enough insurance?

Determine your specific risk factors. Do you smoke? Do you live with someone who smokes? Do you have a pet? Do you exercise? Are you overweight or underweight? Do you eat properly or are you more prone to eating on the run and eating whatever you can find? Do you see the dentist and primary care physician on a regular basis? When was the last time you had blood work done? Do you know the answers to these questions? These are necessary questions to determining your risk factors that may require you to obtain secondary insurance.

Take a look at your primary insurance coverage. Does it cover you in case of a prolonged illness? While it is illegal to drop a client due to illness, the insurance companies still do it but in a circumvent manner, such as fraud or missed payments. Does your insurance company offer prescription coverage, including the name brand medications? Does the insurance company have a cap on coverage and if so, what is it? Would you be able to afford the medical treatments you may require if the insurance company does not cover it? What are your deductibles? Do you need more insurance, a secondary coverage policy?
